Digital Marketing Career FAQ

Unsure of where to start in your digital marketing career? Or already into but not sure about next steps. Here are some of our answers to commonly asked questions about the industry!

Which Certification is Best for Digital Marketing in Singapore?

This really depends on where you are in your digital marketing career.

  • Just getting started: We’d probably recommend taking a formal course taught by proven industry professionals. This will give you a broad overview of the different fields and set you off on the right path.
  • Some background / experience: If you’ve gotten your feet wet before and are ready to take a deeper dive, we’d recommend choosing a field or two to go deeper, taking relevant online courses, and finding someone to mentor you in that field.
  • Been in digital marketing for sometime: If you’ve been in the industry for years, you probably wouldn’t benefit much from an introductory course. Our best advice is to keep up with industry blogs and occasionally update your certifications.

Is Singapore a Good City for Digital Marketing Professionals?

Singapore is a great place to be a digital marketer! Business is booming in and around Singapore, and companies are always looking for digital marketing help.

There are tons of new digital marketing agencies popping up everyday, as well as a deep ecosystem of freelancers and contractors. Check out our recent blog on questions to ask before launching a marketing campaign in Singapore.

Is it Worth Paying for a Digital Marketing Course or Certification?

Again, it probably depends on where you are on your journey. If you have no digital marketing background, it would be worth paying for a solid introductory course. If you’ve been around the block a time or two, you can probably find affordable online courses that help you take a next step.

Keep in mind that in Singapore, there are plenty of subsidies available to you to keep costs down. And if you already work for a company, they may sponsor your professional development.

What Qualifications Do You Need for Digital Marketing?

This depends on your field of expertise. For example, if you’re a Google Ads Expert, you should definitely have the Google Analytics and Google Ads certifications. If you specialise in Facebook Ads, you should have the Meta Blueprint Certification. If you use HubSpot regularly, you should get their Inbound Marketing Certification.

All that said, most agencies, companies, and potential clients will be more interested in what you’ve done. Being able to show off an ad campaign that generated positive ROI is more valuable than displaying your certification badge. That doesn’t mean courses can’t prevent you from making digital marketing mistakes, though.

How to Get Hired as a Digital Marketer?

If you’re ready to get a full time job as a digital marketer, you’ve got a few options:

  • Freelance / Contractor: You could go the freelance route and get your own clients or sub-contract with larger agencies.
  • Work for an Agency: You could get a job for an established digital marketing agency.
  • Work In-House: And you could work in-house for a company.

If you want to go the freelance route, you should establish your portfolio and start seeking clients! If you want to work for an agency or in-house, start looking for job openings and sharpen up your resume.

Guaranteed to make you look smarter.
(Cuz you will be.)

Start every week with all the digital marketing stories, data, teardowns, case studies, and weird news you need to drop in your next marketing standup meeting.
